Iranian forces say they have struck a US naval base in Manama, as Iran launched missile attacks across the region in retaliation for a significant and ongoing assault targeting the nation by the US and Israel.

Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an zone near the headquarters of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The full scale of any damage is uncertain and the United States has not commented.

Regional Interceptions

Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, Qatar and Kuwait - all home to US military bases - said they have intercepted incoming projectiles in their airspace.

In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry said it had successfully engaged several missiles seemingly aimed at the al-Udeid air base, the biggest US military installation in the region.

IRGC Statement

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard stated it was striking US bases and assets as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the offensive on Iran initiated by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.

That preceding assault - launched at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far focused on sites linked to the the regime, with US President Donald Trump encouraging the Iranian people to rise up against the regime.

Regional Fallout

In Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israel Defense Forces said it had detected an incoming Iranian missile barrage.

The defence ministry of the United Arab Emirates announced that the nation has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"UAE air defence systems responded to the projectiles with high efficiency and successfully intercepted a number of missiles," the statement continued.

It said missile fragments landed in a neighborhood in Abu Dhabi, resulting in some material damage and fatalities.

The United States Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
